One of the most common questions we hear from patients seeking out orthodontic treatment here at Windy City Orthodontics is “how much do braces cost?” With multiple treatment options available and customized plans for every patient, the answer to that question depends on multiple factors, including:
- The type of braces chosen
- Whether the braces are for an adult or a child
- The orthodontic issues being corrected
- How long braces will be needed
- If the patient has dental insurance that covers orthodontics
- The orthodontist providing treatment
- The area in which the patient lives and will be receiving treatment
Combined, these factors play a large part in determining the cost of treatment. Traditional braces are typically the least expensive option, while other methods like clear braces and Invisalign sometimes cost slightly more. Additionally, orthodontic treatment for children is usually less expensive than treatment for adults, though this varies from case to case. Patients with more severe or complex orthodontic issues may have longer treatment times, which means more work for the orthodontist and more follow-up appointments.
Finally, each orthodontist has their own pricing structure based in part on the region in which they’re located. Some insurance policies will provide coverage for orthodontic treatment, but that will depend on the individual patient and the treatment they need.
What does the total cost of treatment include?
There are no unexpected fees or hidden costs at Windy City Orthodontics! At your initial consultation, we’ll go over every aspect of the financial commitment required for your new smile before beginning the active phase of treatment. Our customized treatment plans include everything you need for long-lasting, beautiful results, including:
- all appointments, including most urgent repair visits
- braces or clear aligners (like Invisalign)
- retainers to hold your teeth straight
- post-treatment follow-up visits
- an oral hygiene starter pack
The cost of your treatment reflects the skill of our expert team, the high-quality products we use, and the top-notch service we provide. Our team is dedicated to creating healthy, beautiful smiles in Chicago and the surrounding communities. We know braces are a big investment and we’re proud to help patients achieve a confident smile that lasts for years to come.
What is the average cost for braces?
Although there is no “one size fits all” answer as to how much any type of orthodontic treatment will cost, the average cost for children’s braces is from $4-7,000, while adult braces or aligners can be anywhere from $5-8,000. Again, the total cost of treatment will depend largely on the individual patient and their specific needs and goals.
Flexible Payment Options
Here at Windy City Orthodontics, we strive to provide high quality orthodontic care that fits any budget! We’ll work with you to schedule affordable payments that fit your lifestyle. We also offer plans that require NO downpayment! This can be a great option for many patients, allowing some flexibility for their payment. You can also use your FSA or HSA account to pay for your orthodontic treatment. At your initial consultation, we’ll discuss all of your options and find what works best for you!
Using dental insurance to cover orthodontic treatment
There are some dental insurance plans that will cover orthodontic treatment, but the rules and regulations can be somewhat confusing. Our team has years of experience working with insurance companies, and we aim to get every patient the maximum benefit possible!
Each customized treatment plan is based upon the unique needs of the patient and the professional judgement of the Windy City Orthodontics team. We won’t recommend a treatment based on whether it’s covered by your insurance. Instead, we’ll present you with a plan that’s centered around your orthodontic needs and goals.
Once a patient has gone through their initial consultation and received a diagnosis and treatment plan, those with dental insurance should check with their provider to see if they will receive any coverage for their specific orthodontic treatment.
To better serve our patients, we’re happy to assist with any insurance claims and paperwork. We’ll estimate all co-payments and out of pocket expenses before starting treatment. Once treatment is complete and all insurance payments have gone through, we’ll reconcile the account and the patient will be responsible for any remaining balance.
If insurance will not cover treatment, can the cost be deducted on your tax return?
If braces are determined to be medically necessary, the health care costs involved are sometimes tax deductible. However, this cost must exceed a certain amount before any deductions are applied. Patients should always keep track of expenses associated with braces treatment if they wish to deduct the costs, including co-pays and check-up visits.
Beautiful smiles are worth the investment at Windy City Orthodontics
Here at Windy City Orthodontics, we believe that braces are about more than improving a patient’s cosmetic appearance. Oral health is directly related to total body health, and misaligned teeth can lead to increased chances for cavities, tooth decay, pain and soreness in the head and neck, and gum disease, to name a few. While orthodontic treatment can be a big investment, it’s one that will last a lifetime!
Your smile is as unique as your fingerprint and we believe it deserves one-of-a-kind treatment! While it’s natural to want a good deal, it’s not enough to choose an orthodontic treatment based on price alone. It’s important to choose a trained, experienced orthodontist who makes you feel like part of the family!
At Windy City Orthodontics, our main goal is to provide patients with a positive and stress-free orthodontic experience, from the initial consultation to the final appointment. We believe everyone should have access to high-quality, affordable orthodontic care, and work hard to ensure this for every patient we see.
